Oreochromis lidole is a species which is living in big groups in the entire lake and can be found in all kinds of environments but mainly in open water. These cichlids are, together with the other tilapia species, very important for the local consumption of fish around Lake Malawi. In the lake the males of these species can grow to 33 cm, females stay smaller. Oreochromis lidole is a very peaceful cichlid, which you can best keep with multiple females and other big species in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. In the lake they are feeding themselves with phytoplankton. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix. |
